Jerry Jay “Dorsey”
For 18 years Dorsey has been involved in developing athletes at all stages of their careers. He began his own athletic career as a standout football and basketball player at Hopkinsville High School in Clarksville, Tennessee. After a short but successful stint at City College of San Francisco where he was Preseason All-American and earned his spot as the 2nd leading receiver in the country, Dorsey went on to play 2 years of Division I football for the Hoosiers of Indiana University. After his second season at IU, Dorsey was invited as a free agent to the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and more. He ultimately decided to play arena football in Greenville and Louisville until multiple injuries sidelined him from the professional arena.
After finishing a successful football career, Dorsey became a highly sought after performance trainer for youth, amateur and professional athletes of all different sports. His main focus is using innovative and dynamic approaches to increase the athlete’s speed, agility and quickness.
Dorsey began his volleyball career 10 years ago. Since then, he has competed at the Open level against some of the best beach volleyball players across various US cities. Alongside playing and training himself, Dorsey began coaching young players in the sand in 2014. He began his coaching career as a private performance coach but later joined C2 Attack Beach Volleyball Club as a head coach for two seasons. In 2016, he completed his USA Volleyball Beach Cap 1 Certification and in 2017, Dorsey signed one of his first beach volleyball athletes to a Division 1 program (UNCW).
Most recently in 2017 Dorsey built a brand new, state of the art Beach Volleyball Training Facility in Hermitage, Tennessee. The facility, Vollis Beach, successfully trains young and veteran athletes of all different skill levels to compete at their desired level of competition.
A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Emily began her volleyball career at Pike High School, lettering for three seasons, as captain junior/senior year, earning First-Team All-County honors, All-Conference and was named to the IGCSA South All-Star Team her senior year. She played for two elite indoor clubs Circle City Volleyball Club and Team Indiana. As a member of the 16-1 Team Indiana team, Emily was invited to travel to Europe to compete against local national teams in Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy. In 2009, as a junior she verbally committed to play for Kennesaw State University (KSU), a NCAA Division I program.
During her career at KSU, Emily earned All-Tournament Team honors (2014) and ASUN player of the week nominations. She currently is still ranked top ten in school records for attacks, aces and digs. In 2014, Emily studied and played for a local semi-pro team in Galicia, Spain for a semester.
Alongside playing collegiately for 4 years (2010-2014), Emily coached local youth during Summer camps held at Kennesaw State University and local high-schools in Atlanta. In 2013, Emily assisted a 14s indoor club team at Cobb Atlanta Volleyball Club. In 2014 Emily assisted in coaching the Kennesaw Mountain High School varsity volleyball team. Shortly after moving to Nashville in 2015, Emily began coaching at Spike Volleyball Club, and is currently getting ready to start her third season as a head coach.
Emily began playing beach volleyball while at Kennesaw State for cross-training but became more serious in 2016 competing in open level tournaments in the South East Region. She is currently expecting her first child but will soon after began training again to compete at the highest level of professional beach volleyball.
In 2017, Emily assisted in opening a the brand new beach volleyball facility in Hermitage, Tennessee. She is currently Director of Operations and a Head Coach of their juniors beach academy.
Jay Umboh has been coaching volleyball since 1994. He’s worked with MTSU and UT-Chattanooga as their 1st assistant coach, where his duties included recruiting, game planning, running practice and organizing volleyball camps. He’s recruited top athletes that have made the All South Team, All Conference, All Tournament, and Rookie of the Year. While at UTC, he helped them attain their highest winning percentage and reached Conference Finals.
Jay has been head coach and director with several clubs in Nashville (Head coach at Alliance, Williamson County Select. Director/Coach at Nashville VBC, SportsCom VBC). Jay also coach at MLK HS and led their 9th grade team to a 15-1 record and won city championship in 2012, and is now the MLK Varsity Volleyball Head Coach where they reached Regionals for the first time in 2017.
Jay graduated from MTSU and learned to play there where he captained the MTSU collegiate men’s club. Jay is still playing competitive volleyball at outdoor and indoor tournaments/leagues. Jay is big on technique and fundamentals, and loves coaching all levels, from beginners just learning the game, up to collegiate athletes. Jay has been with Spike since 2012 and is now director and lead coach with Spike Volleyball. Jay got his USAV IMPACT certification in 2011. In addition to Spike, Jay is coaching beach volleyball with the AVP Academy in Hermitage, TN.
